I watched two cops hiding behind the bushes on the opposite side of the street. Each with a radar gun, but less interested in pointing them at any moving vehicles than they were with hanging out there together, cracking each other up.
From across the median, I could see them gesturing and hear them laughing but couldn’t make out their conversation. All I knew is they were probably a couple of good-humored guys.
I was out for an afternoon run, so as I jogged by I had a funny thought. “Hey!” I waved and caught their attention. “How fast am I going?”

What did they say?
I’m not sure I run fast enough to register…

LOL. I was out for a run yesterday and literally had the same thought of ‘I wonder how I’d do against a speed gun’.
They didn’t tell you? =(

I think the answer is in the title of the post, blogger friends.

The real question is, was this your regular pace or did you pick it up when you knew you were being clocked?

Oh too funny! I’ve always wished to be able to use the radar guns for something fun like this!

My buddy once tried this not with cops, but with one those “This is how fast you are going” road signs. It was rather obnoxiously placed on a relatively dead street in Rehoboth. About half a block away, we noticed it, so he decided to charge full speed at it to see how fast it would register him.
It didn’t register him at all. We were disappointed.

Thanks for all the fun comments! Dennis, great story too.
A lot of folks are curious, so… while it made for a good laugh, they did not clock me. I don’t even know if the radar gun would work on a human, right?
Anyway, I guess I woulda been clocked at 6 MPH, though, because that’s about how fast I jog.
geekhiker // March 14, 2008 at 2:51 pm
You consider 6 mph to be just a “jog”, not a run?!? Geez, I’m more out of shape than I thought…

i couldnt go six mph if a dog was chasing me….when i kick the treadmill up to 4 i get consumed with anxiety at the thought of a possible wipeout … if it happened…id have to change gyms…
but ummm….you realllly do flirt with EVERY uni you see out there dont you???!!
xoxo

I can’t help but say that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with flirting with every uniform out there: it’s always worth a shot. Manfriend and tilted lady parts not withstanding.

GH and s_b: 6 MPH is a 10 minute mile, so don’t be thinkin’ I am road runner or anything!
and yes, s_b and Dakota: I cannot resist the unis but it’s all very innocent
